Renewable Energy

In 2004, under the initiative of Dr. Thomas Reg Preston, former director of UTA-Cambodia CelAgrid started to work gasifier. A unit of gasifier was imported from India under the research fund for Mr. Meach Phalla for his MSc. thesis. A number of biomass such coconut shell, leucaena, Cassia stemia, and cassava stems was tested to measure the electricity output through the gasifier. In 2006, CelAgrid built one gasifier that can use high and low density feedstock. Both units are present used for electricity production at CelAgrid.

CelAgrid considers the recycling of manure and farm residues are
important components of the sustainable integrated farming systems.
This would not only produce good quality of fertilizer but producing
methane for cooking and it is used as fuel for engines for pumping
water as well as electricity. Six plastic biodigesters were
installed with the connection to animal pens. This plastic
biodigester technology has been introduced in target communities of
CelAgrid in Takeo and Kandal provinces. Farmers are happy with the
biogas especially in the rainy season where firewood is wet and it
is difficult for cooking and the effluent is excellent for
vegetables. A small shop was built to sell complete set of
biodigester to customers and provide technical service when needed. |
